With the day off for President’s day, the Landyachtz LA crew took the opportunity to go shred some snow on LY Snowskates for the first time. Here are some words and photos from their adventure of learning how to snowskate…

“All of the crew has been skating for some time and a few of us had some snowboarding experience under our belt but this would be the first on Snowskates for all of us. With spirits high and heads groggy we left LA in the van bright and early at 7 AM… “skater time” does not apply when there is snow and expensive lift tickets at hand!
With tickets in hand and having gotten the go-ahead from ski patrol ensuring that our skates were up to snuff, we headed to lift #2 up to the top of some easy green slopes. Right off the bat, heads turned as we rode off the lift and we were instantly hit with barrage of questions regarding our foreign intrusion into the land of parallel stances and bound feet. We assured everyone that these things were indeed fun (with of course no firsthand knowledge of said fun), dropped in, and all instantly fell on our butts.

About halfway down the first slope, something clicked in our heads, and everyone simultaneously started to be able to link turns and figure it out. From there, it was game on- the crew had it figured out and started raging down the green slopes. David Petrie and David “Fingerbang” Rudgers both figured it out quickly and were cruising full speed a few runs in. With basic riding skills under our belts, it was time to head to the park to put our skills to the test. Banks were slashed, boxes were ground, and jumps were ollied.

With a full day of shredding completed and our legs beyond toast, the only thing left to do was go grab some beers before the long haul back home.”
Not bad for their first-day riding snowskates. It is awesome to see how quick people can adapt their skateboarding and snowboarding background to have a blast on a snowskate!
